Gaming Space

Our new gaming space is expected to accommodate 30 tables and 84 seats (which can be expanded to over 100 seats for larger events).
We know that it has been difficult to book a table due to all of the events that we run. Our expansion will ensure that tables are always available, whether for casual board gaming, joining in with a club or to play wargames. We want to return to the days when you could drop in any time to play some games...

Tournaments are going to be a big thing after our expansion! TCG tournaments will expand and become more regular and wargaming tournaments will finally begin in earnest, with a full calendar of events for all of our currently supported games.

We're excited to be inviting members of our community who are passionate about a particular game to become our Community Champions and work alongside the Black Dragon Games team. Champions will help us to plan, run and sometimes even judge the events that our community want to see, bringing their unique insight as players.
We want Community Champions to become the centre of our gaming community, ensuring that Black Dragon Games goes above and beyond in creating the best events possible.

Our events page, booking page and preorder pages were written in the final few days before Black Dragon Games opened, almost 3 years ago. They have performed admirably, but its time for them to go...
Our physical expansion will be followed shortly by a complete overhaul of all online systems. The new website will feature a login system where you can manage your bookings, pay in advance for events if you wish, place and view preorders and adjust your newsletter settings.
That's right! A newsletter! With so many events and new releases it can be hard to keep up with what's going on in the wonderful world of games. Our newsletter will allow you to select the content that you want to be kept up-to-date about, ensuring that you always know about the new releases and events that you care about.

Black Dragon Games 2.0 will feature a huge stock room, allowing us to keep more stock and operate in a more organised and efficient manner. The staff will finally get a space for themselves! Our staff work exceptionally hard and we want to give them a space take a break and decompress when they're not working. You've probably noticed us working away at computers on the gaming tables as we process the mountains of administration that the shop generates. It's time to build an office and give the managers somewhere to do their work...
Progress Report
Black Dragon Games 2.0 is a 3 phase plan. At the moment we're part way through Phase 2, but finishing Phase 2 and 3 is where the real costs come in...
Phase 1
Phase 1 was mostly completed back in September. Perhaps you saw this video back then?
Moving out of our old stock room has given us access to a new gaming area, while moving into the new stock room has given us 3 times the space in which to store, organise and process stock.
Most of Phase 1 was completed by our own team of staff, who stripped and painted the room, before filling it with enough racking to store all of our stock while leaving room for growth. This was the cheapest and quickest phase of the expansion.
Phase 2
This is how our back room (our stock room at the time) looked back in August...
But with a little bit of work from contractors and staff, we've transformed it into a new gaming room that seats an extra 16 people!
Phase 2 gives us some extra gaming space, allowing us to offer more clubs and casual gaming tables. You should start to find that you can now book a table most days!
But we're only half way through Phase 2. The staircase in the back room will soon become the route into our upstairs gaming area, while the doors need to be adjusted to provide wheelchair access and additional fire exits to accommodate the additional capacity that Phase 3 will provide.
Phase 3
Here's the big one! It's also the most expensive stage of our expansion...

This is what we're starting with - the landlord has done a great job stripping it out for us, but now we've got to put it back together again.
Once we're happy that our plans will satisfy Building Control, we can start work: replacing all of the electrics and plumbing, building a new staircase and 3 toilet rooms, resurfacing the walls, installing an air conditioning system and fire alarm, new carpets and filling it with many tables...
This is going to take a while and cost a lot of money, but we're expecting to be up there early next year.
This room will allow us to hold large-scale events without impacting table usage downstairs, allowing all weekly clubs and general table usage to continue. Whether its hosting 32 players for a Warhammer 40,000 tournament, or a 64 player Pokémon League Cup, this area will allow everyone to continue doing their favourite hobbies without interruption.
Upstairs is also where we'll be building our office and staff room, giving the team somewhere out of the way to work and rest.
Why Crowdfunding?
Black Dragon Games has always been about community – and we'd like to keep it that way!
With renovations that are going to cost many tens of thousands of pounds, we have to choose our sources of finance carefully. We were fortunate to secure a government grant to contribute to the renovations and our directors will be contributing a large pot of funds to the expansion.
Now we're looking for at least another £10,000 to get us close to our final goal. We want to generate that final investment from our local community, so that they can help grow the business that they helped to build (and we can say thank you to our backers with some amazing rewards!).
Whilst third-party crowdfunding websites provide a fantastic resource for new business ventures, many also charge hefty fees for their services and others do not allow businesses to reward their backers. Rewarding our backers is extremely important to us, as is ensuring that any donations are used productively within the business, so we have opted to collect funds using our own website.

What if I make multiple donations?
When the Crowdfunding Campaign has ended we will contact anyone who has made multiple donations. Backers may choose to receive the rewards for each individual donation separately, or combine their donations to reach a higher level. Please note that each backer will only have their name added to one Backers Plaque, regardless of how many donations they make.
A now for the legal bit...
All donations will be made to Black Dragon Games Ltd to support the expansion of the store as part of the Black Dragon Games 2.0 project.
All donations are final and cannot be returned. Black Dragon Games Ltd will keep all donations even if we fail to meet our crowdfunding goal. Rewards will be provided regardless of whether or not our crowdfunding goal is met.
This money is not an advance payment for goods. The value of any goods received as rewards for donations is small compared to the value of the donation. Any Gold Reward Cards received as rewards for donations have zero value.
Gold Reward cards may only be used to collect reward stamps on payments made by the person who made the donation (who will be named on the card). Reward Stamps will only be added to Gold Reward Cards at the time of purchase (it will not be possible to receive stamps by returning later with a receipt). Replacement Gold Reward Cards will not be issued if the original cards are lost.
All rewards (excluding plaques) will be available for collection from Black Dragon Games within 1 month of the opening ceremony of Black Dragon Games 2.0 (expected in January 2025).
Black Dragon Games Ltd is not a charity. Neither Gift Aid nor any Charitable Tax Relief will apply to this donation.
